Communicator of the Year

The AWC Seattle Professional Chapter Communicator of the Year Award recognizes and honors an individual in the Puget Sound area who, in the past year, has created a significant community impact through communications excellence and leadership. A selection committee determines the award recipient based on:

  • Input from the nominator
  • Interviews with three references
  • Quantifiable data

Lori Matsukawa, Co-Anchor of KING 5 and KONG TV, was the proud recipient of the 2009 Communicator of the Year award. Other winners include:

  • Marsha Savery, Director of Marketing, Membership and Guest Impression for the Seattle Aquarium Society
  • Julie Brand Wallace, Manager of Community Relations and Graphics at the King County Library System
  • Mindy Cameron, former editorial page editor at The Seattle Times
  • Jane Meyer of the Mercer Island Reporter
  • Margaret Larson, former news anchor and now head of communications for Mercy Corps
  • JoAnn Byrd of the Seattle P-I
  • Janda Black and Christine Stepherson of Soapbox Communications
  • Cathy Henkel, sports editor at The Seattle Times

2010 AWC Communicator of the Year Nominations Due July 16

Do you know a Puget Sound-area communicator who has made a significant impact on his or her business, a client’s business, or the community as a communications leader, innovator and mentor — over his/her career and especially during the past year, and has had outstanding results? Someone who:

  • Was instrumental in helping an organization land a grant or get a flood of donations
  • Played a lead role in getting word out to the public about a health, education or environmental issue
  • Mentored and encouraged others
  • Promoted the arts or events exceptionally well
  • Created visibility and increased sales for a new brand or product
  • Dealt successfully with crisis communications in the public interest

To nominate a candidate for AWC Seattle’s 2010 Communicator of the Year award, please 1) send a letter of no more than 200 words that highlights accomplishments, 2) provide contact information for yourself, and 3) provide three references for the nominee.

Nominees must be a Puget Sound-area communicator who has created a significant impact through his or her direct efforts, exhibits the highest level of professionalism, and works to further the communications profession for newcomers to the field. Nominees may be paid or volunteer communicators.

Nominations are due by July 16, 2010. The winner will be honored at AWC Seattle’s annual recognition event in October. Think and act now to nominate someone whom you think has been an outstanding communications professional over the past year.
