Since 1909, the Association for Women in Communications (AWC) has had one goal: championing the advancement of women across all communications disciplines. From our humble beginning of seven women journalists at the University of Washington, we have grown into a professional powerhouse of more than 3,000 members nationwide encompassing all fields of communications.

How to Join or Renew

• Professionals: To join AWC, visit AWC National for application and membership information. Current members renewing their memberships, go to the AWC Renewal Membership Online Form.
• Corporate Membership: Signature and Classic levels available. Learn more.
• Students: Email awcseattle@verizon.net to request an application and information about joining the AWC Student Chapter at the University of Washington. More AWC student information.

Seattle Professional Chapter members are in advertising, corporate and nonprofit communications, education, publishing, event planning, graphic design, journalism, marketing, printing, public information, public relations, resource development, video production and more.
• Communicators & Marketers JobLine: This is the Puget Sound area’s best source for employment and internship opportunities in a variety of communications fields. The Seattle Chapter offers free access to our members.
• Annual Professional Conference: This is your opportunity to learn about the latest tools and tips, explore issues and new fields, and meet and learn from professional communicators from across the country.
• Seattle Chapter Programs: Featured speakers explore current trends, help you sharpen your skills and provide valuable networking opportunities.
• Hands-on Opportunities: Learn new skills and meet members through participation in chapter events and committees. For example, build event-planning skills by joining the committees to plan the Seattle Chapter’s annual Putting Challenge and Holiday Auction. These important events help raise funds for college scholarships.

Eligibility

Professional membership in the Association for Women in Communications is open to anyone who spends at least 20 hours per week in creative professional communications work, or who has at least two years of experience as a paid professional in creative communications.
