Whitney Mason was honored by the Seattle Chapter of AWC with the Georgina MacDougall Davis Founder’s Award at the group’s Scholarship and Awards Dinner on June 20. Established in 1976, the Founder’s award (affectionately called the Georgina) is given annually to a chapter member who consistently exhibits the highest ethics, professional excellence and personal commitment in everything she does.
Mason joined AWC in 1998, and served as Seattle chapter president for the 2009-2010 term. She has also been active in a variety of board positions and volunteer roles, currently serving as Seattle’s VP of Finance. But her commitment to AWC does not stop at the local level. Since 2009, she has also served on the AWC National Board which oversees organization, planning and implementation for the Association for Women in Communications on a national level.
Mason grew up in the Seattle area, then attended Northwestern University, graduating with a B.S. and M.S. in Journalism. She studied abroad in Brussels and Paris, and also at the University of Washington in Certificate Programs “The House as Architecture” and “Fundraising Management.” Additionally, she completed “Command and Staff” studies at the Marine Corps University in 2005, and the Seattle Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Tomorrow Program in 2005-2006.
After serving on active duty in the U.S. Marine Corps for eleven years, Mason worked as executive director for two non-profit animal shelters in Virginia and Colorado. Returning to Seattle, she decided to join her mother in real estate, launching a successful career at Coldwell Banker Bain where she has been selected as the “Five Star: Best in Client Satisfaction Real Estate Agent” for the past six years. She also continues to serve in the Marine Corps Reserve as a public affairs/logistics officer in support of Recruiting Station Seattle.
Mason’s community involvement includes membership in Seattle Rotary and Pacific NW Marine Corps Support Group. She has also volunteered with the Girl Scouts Fostering a Future Program and the Seattle Humane Society. She previously served on the Board of Directors for the Puget Sound VA Fisher House, the nominating committee for the board of directors for the Girl Scouts Western Washington, and has been a Delta Society Pet Partner.
